Community Legal Aid . CWJC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid. CWJC and CLA provide civil legal services to low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts. CWJC seeks an attorney to work in its Springfield office to provide legal assistance related to criminal records, immigration consequences, and related civil matters. Responsibilities
Provide legal representation in criminal record sealing and expungement proceedings. Represent clients in appeals of housing and/or employment denials due to criminal records. Advise clients on immigration consequences of criminal records. Represent clients with criminal records in affirmative or defensive immigration cases. Refer clients for post-conviction relief and advise/represent on other civil consequences of the criminal court system. Connect clients with sustainable community support and engage in community outreach and education. Collaborate with CWJC’s Immigration Unit and work in CWJC's Springfield office. Qualifications
Law students in their third year, recent law school graduates, and more experienced attorneys are eligible to apply. Fluency or advanced proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Arabic, or Vietnamese strongly preferred. Prior experience in immigration law and/or criminal and civil consequence law and demonstrated experience working with diverse communities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively. Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary is $73,000, based on a union scale and adjusted upward with experience. Generous benefits package: 401(k) with employer contribution; low-cost health insurance (medical, dental, vision) for employees and dependents; malpractice insurance; paid leave (4 weeks vacation, 3 personal days, 12 sick days, 13 holidays); student loan repayment assistance; relocation reimbursement. Hybrid work environment with in-office requirement at least three days per week. Location
