The Civil Service Board is seeking a Hearing Officer to conduct public hearings for dismissal, suspension and demotion appeals. Responsibilities
The Civil Service Board is seeking a Hearing Officer to conduct public hearings for dismissal, suspension and demotion appeals.
The Hearing Officer hears cases appealed to the Board, and within 14 to 30 days of each hearing’s conclusion, present Findings of Fact and Conclusion of Law to the Board, which will confirm or disaffirm the actions recommended. Knowledge of the rules of evidence, judicial procedures, accepted legal and court interpretations, the City Charter, City Ordinances, and Civil Service Rules and procedures will be utilized in conducting these hearings and providing recommendations.
They shall serve as the legal advisor to the Civil Service Board by ruling upon all questions of law and the admissibility of evidence in those hearings before the full Board.
They shall prepare a written report for all hearings in which the Hearing Officer presides or serves as legal advisor to the Civil Service Board. This written report shall contain the findings of fact, conclusions of law, and the Hearing Officer’s recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidate must possess a J.D. degree and have been admitted to the practice of law in the State of Ohio with experience in court trial and adjudicatory work. Experience as a court referee, hearing officer, or arbitrator is preferred.
