Overview
Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) is seeking a
highly motivated Staff Attorney
to join our legal team and provide in-house counsel to PHS and its affiliates. This role involves supporting a variety of legal matters, including
litigation, regulatory compliance, and daily operational issues
across our integrated healthcare system. Key Responsibilities
Assist with litigated and regulatory matters and support management decision-making Prepare, review, and negotiate legal documents and agreements Review and respond to third-party and government subpoenas Advise on medical staff and peer review issues Provide real-time legal support to direct care teams Develop and review policies and procedures related to patient care, regulatory compliance, and workforce matters Provide legal support for care units and operations across the delivery system Provide legal support to the Risk Management and Legal departments Provide education, training, and guidance in formal and informal settings to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risk across the enterprise Provide backup coverage for other PHS attorneys and participate in the call rotation for day call and after-hours legal emergencies Triage, prepare, and respond to subpoenas and law enforcement requests Work with hospital departments and team members to operationalize educational and business objectives Attend or staff internal standing and task force or ad hoc teams Assist with drafting or reviewing contracts and patient complaint documentation as needed Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school Admission to the State Bar of New Mexico or ability to obtain admission within a short period of time Minimum of 2 years of experience as an attorney, preferably in healthcare or litigation Knowledge and willingness to learn federal and state healthcare laws and regulations Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with court personnel, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders Occasional in-state travel to various PHS facilities Employment Details
