Cardiac Ultrasound Techn - $15,000 Sign On Bonus at Brown University Health. Eligible for a $15,000 Sign On Bonus. Summary: The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist II evaluates the heart using ultrasound, requiring thorough understanding of cardiac pathology and operation of the echocardiography system to capture diagnostic images for cardiologists. Responsibilities
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic echocardiography examinations – M-Mode, two-dimensional, Doppler and Color Doppler Echocardiography, Exercise Stress Echocardiograms and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures based on anatomy, pathology, diagnostic information and images. Understands basic and complex hemodynamics and wall motion abnormalities. Positions patients and optimally adjusts machine controls to obtain the best cardiac ultrasound images. Performs measurements and calculations (e.g., wall thickness, chamber size, valve orifice, blood velocity, pressure gradients). Obtains patient medical history and understands the patient’s diagnosis and study goals; ensures complete and accurate data. Provides quality cardiac ultrasound examinations for varied adult populations including elderly, critical care patients, and those with complex congenital heart anomalies. Uses independent judgment to differentiate normal and pathologic findings and explains procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety while maintaining professionalism. Supports daily Echocardiography Lab operations: patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). Maintains ethical working relationships with interrelating hospitals and agencies; may provide in-service ultrasound training for Cardiology Fellows and junior sonographers. Performs all requested cardiac ultrasounds ordered by attending physicians (Outpatient, Inpatient, Portable and Urgent studies). Participates in research studies as applicable and maintains interest in the field of echocardiography. Identifies patients correctly, complies with infection control policies, and follows departmental Echocardiogram Protocol. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent; graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program (CAAHEP) preferred. Passing ARDMS (Adult Echocardiography and Physics) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) anticipated within first two years; active status maintained if already certified. Current ARDMS or RCS CME requirements; minimum 15 CME’s over a three-year period if not registered; in absence of minimum education, substantial cardiac ultrasound work experience may be acceptable. Skills: integrate diagnostic sonograms with clinical data; independent judgment to obtain optimal diagnostic information; excellent communication with patients and healthcare team; ability to work efficiently in emergencies; ability to obtain optimal images in technically difficult patients; knowledge of basic and complex hemodynamics and wall motion abnormalities; capability to progress to higher skill levels; competency to perform all aspects of echocardiograms including Exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms. Physically capable of performing duties; emotional and physical health to meet position demands. Strength to move patients and equipment (up to ~500 lbs); maintain prolonged arm positions for scanning. Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens; Category I tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Pay
