The Lab Research Technician conducts research aimed at understanding the evolution of B and T cell receptors and infections in bats. This position involves laboratory work including extraction of nucleic acids, preparation of amplified libraries and genomic libraries, under appropriate biosafety conditions. The technician will contribute to the daily operations of the laboratory, mentor students, assist in data analysis and organization, and may aid in field operations. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Extraordinary attention to detail in organization. Ability to manipulate small, irreplaceable samples with minimal loss and no cross contamination. Ability to keep meticulous records. Willingness and ability to train others. Special Requirements
Ability to complete and pass the occupational health screening related to contact or exposure to animals or animal tissues, as per the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program, annually. Background Checks and Screenings
Selected candidates must pass a background check, occupational health screening, and possibly a drug screening, conducted after a conditional offer of employment. Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with 1 year of research experience. Preferred Qualifications
Interest or knowledge in genomic techniques, bats, and/or immunology. Additional Details
