Overview
Commercial Lines Sr. Underwriter, Religious Organizations - Hybrid or Remote Opportunity at The Mutual Group. This role involves managing a book of program business for profitability and growth, advising other underwriters and staff on technical systems, processes and procedures, and consulting at the highest level of technical underwriting authority. Responsibilities
Fully review both new and renewal program business, assess risk of coverage, prepare quotes and respond to coverage questions within the assigned authority level. Review and approve underwriting decisions for lower authority level underwriters and prepare recommendations for review with the Underwriting Leader if policy is outside prescribed authority limits. Build successful relationships with agents to drive increased, positive business flow and work under limited supervision with significant independent judgment. Analyze exposures, determine acceptable risks for complex niche business to determine coverage and premium that is adequate and competitive. Handle or support more complex state, risk, regulatory environment, and CAT exposure as needed. Take a tactical approach to underwriting to achieve profitability and growth within goals and metrics. Analyze inspection reports, location, risk, and financial reports to accept or reject new and renewal business in property and casualty lines. Manage risk portfolio to align with goals and metrics. Collaborate with Underwriting Assistants on accounts and agency relationships within the assigned territory; may provide work direction to lower authority underwriters and assistants. Provide backup support for the Underwriting Leader in their absence or during peak workload; take initiative to seek new business opportunities. Communicate with Loss Control and Risk Management for inspections; assist in training and mentoring lower level underwriters. Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), IIA or related designation desired. Five years of progressively responsible experience in commercial underwriting, including three years in a property and casualty company. Experience in writing Religious Organizations and Program Business preferred. Broad knowledge of P&C insurance industry terms, practices, processes and regulations; advanced underwriting concepts and decision-making. Strong communication skills; ability to convey clear and concise information. Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; strong customer service orientation. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, especially Excel; strong numeric attention; organizational skills to manage large volumes and meet deadlines. Compensation
$58,800–$90,000 commensurate with experience, plus bonus eligibility $64,800–$95,000 commensurate with experience in CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA, plus bonus eligibility Benefits
