Relief Youth Development Counselors

to work in our Residential Programs. In this role, you will meet youth’s basic needs with a caring, personal approach, ensuring their physical and emotional safety.

Job Title Relief Youth Development Counselor

Reports to Facility Director, Rose House Close to Home Non-Secure Placement

Location 280 Shepherd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11208

Hours Up to 40 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt Position. Staff must be onsite and available for any three shifts: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm, 3:30 pm - 11:30 pm, or 11:30 pm - 7:30 am. Some weekends may be required.

Salary Range $20-$22 per hour

Major Duties

Provide supervision and be accountable for residents’ whereabouts at all times.

Manage residents' behavior and maintain order.

Implement daily routines, schedules, and procedures.

Ensure residents’ safety, security, and cleanliness of the residence.

Offer individual and group counseling; coordinate court-ordered visits, including supervised home visits, day passes, and facility visits (currently suspended during quarantine).

Maintain records, logs, reports, and adhere to documentation standards.

Participate in planning and executing educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.

Manage supplies and equipment properly.

Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences.

Communicate with staff regarding residents’ needs and program matters.

Transport residents safely for court-ordered appointments (not during quarantine).

Complete mandatory training as required by DYFJ and GSS.

Adhere to all DYFJ and OCFS regulations.

Apply Sanctuary Model tools to foster a trauma-sensitive environment.

Promote Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent culture.

Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF framework into daily practice.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED.

Valid New York State driver’s license.

Ability to complete physical intervention training and pass a physical ability test.

Ability to perform physical restraint using approved procedures.

Capable of sustained physical activity including standing, twisting, kneeling, and supporting weight.

Commitment to youth development and trauma-informed care.

Additional Qualifications

Complete state-mandated crisis intervention training within two months.

Meet physical requirements for restraint activities.
