The Information Technology (IT) Cloud Architect is responsible for shaping the strategic vision and technical direction of the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) cloud platform, ensuring that cloud solutions align with architecture principles, operational excellence, business goals, and best practices. Responsibilities: Architect and Design Cloud Solutions: Provide technical leadership in designing, developing, and optimizing cloud architectures for scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency across HMH's cloud environments. Define Cloud Strategy and Standards: Establish and enforce cloud architecture best practices, governance, and automation standards, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles. Enable Cloud-Native Innovation: Promote the adoption of cloud-native architectures, containers, serverless computing, and DevSecOps practices to accelerate digital transformation initiatives. Understand and communicate the HMH Enterprise Architecture (i.e. Hub and Spoke), outlining the reason and logic of the approach. Understand and communicate the HMH Enterprise Sprawl in resources, projects, and security. Explain the rationale and mentor teams to correct the ship logically. Provide Guidance on Cloud Automation and Infrastructure as Code: Advise and guide cloud engineers in designing and implementing fully automated workflows for provisioning, maintaining, and monitoring complex, highly available cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies. Lead Cloud Platform Engineering Efforts: Act as a technical advisor and mentor to cloud engineers, guiding them in best practices for cloud architecture, automation, security, and operational excellence. Provide Cross-Team Architectural Guidance: Collaborate with Architects, Security, Application, and Infrastructure teams to design resilient, compliant, and scalable cloud solutions. Evaluate and Integrate Emerging Technologies: Stay ahead of industry trends and recommend new cloud technologies, solutions, and methodologies to enhance platform capabilities and operational efficiencies. Establish Security and Compliance in Cloud Architectures: Partner with Cloud Security Architects and Cybersecurity teams to embed security controls, compliance frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies into cloud solutions. Develop Cloud Governance and Best Practices: Define architectural patterns, guardrails, and automation frameworks to maintain a secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud environment. Lead Cloud Architecture Reviews and Optimization Efforts: Conduct cloud architecture reviews, performance assessments, and cost optimization analyses, ensuring cloud investments provide maximum business value. Drive Thought Leadership and Technical Vision: Act as a thought leader within the Cloud Platform Engineering team, influencing long-term cloud strategy, innovation roadmaps, and architectural blueprints. Create and Maintain Architectural Documentation: Develop reference architectures, whitepapers, implementation guides, and operational runbooks for cloud platforms and services. Act as an Escalation Point for Cloud Engineering Challenges: Serve as a technical escalation resource for complex cloud-related issues, troubleshooting performance, security, and operational challenges. Facilitate Enterprise Cloud Decision-Making: Engage with senior IT leadership and business stakeholders to guide cloud adoption, technology roadmaps, and modernization strategies. Support Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning: Ensure cloud architectures are highly available, fault-tolerant, and resilient, incorporating best practices for disaster recovery and operational continuity. Participate in Architecture Review Boards: Represent the Cloud Platform Engineering team in technology review boards, advocating for cloud-first and cloud-smart solutions. Enable DevOps and Cloud Automation Tooling: Champion continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery/deployment (CD) pipelines, GitOps workflows, and automated deployment strategies, integrating tools such as GitHub, Terraform, Terraform Cloud, and Cloud Build. Provide Technical Oversight for Cloud Platform Projects: Drive end-to-end cloud architecture design, implementation, and operational readiness for mission-critical workloads. Build and Maintain Key Relationships Across IT and Business Teams: Partner with business stakeholders, senior IT leaders, and engineering teams to ensure cloud architectures support strategic business objectives. Continuously contribute to evolving cloud architecture strategy and operational excellence to support growth and digital transformation initiatives at HMH. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience (that totals four years). Minimum of 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, and cloud architecture, focused on designing and leading cloud-based solutions. Deep expertise in cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure, including but not limited to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) architectures. Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, automation, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies, including tools such as Terraform, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines. Extensive experience in designing highly available, resilient, and scalable cloud architectures, ensuring security, compliance, and cost efficiency. Strong knowledge of networking, security, and identity management as it pertains to cloud computing, including but not limited to concepts such as zero trust, hybrid cloud networking, and secure cloud architectures. Experience with governance frameworks, cloud security principles, compliance standards such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Systems and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2), and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and risk management in cloud environments. Ability to define and drive cloud strategy and technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business goals and technology modernization efforts. Ability to support cloud architecture recommendations and decisions with research, industry trends, and data-driven insights. Demonstrated experience with enterprise IT environments, including applications, middleware, storage, networking, information security, and operations. Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to cloud engineering teams, helping drive best practices and technology adoption. Strong consultative, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executive leadership, architects, engineers, developers, and business stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex environments, identify risks, and develop scalable cloud solutions. Experience working in agile and DevOps environments, leveraging automation, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native development methodologies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create technical documentation, whitepapers, and architecture diagrams for both technical and executive audiences. Knowledge and Ability in modernization of containers and container methodologies (i.e. Google Kubernetes Engine, Azure AKS, and associated frameworks). Demonstrated ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
