The Health and Public Safety Division, Biological Science Department at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is seeking applicants for an adjunct instructor with experience in food microbiology to teach a food microbiology course for the Culinary Food Science baccalaureate degree program. Essential Responsibilities
Classroom and laboratory instruction for Food Microbiology course Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing a conducive classroom environment and effectively planning for student success Prepare all course materials and lessons, noting that preparation time varies based on experience Provide clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through well-written outlines and syllabus Create interesting and relevant assignments demonstrating learning outcomes in real-life settings Engage and communicate effectively with students to encourage participation and learning Complete grade books, assessments, and final exam evaluations on time Ensure delivery of course and program learning outcomes as per syllabus Maintain records of student progress and make them available upon request Support all facets of the learning environment and promote student success Design, administer, and grade examinations aligned with course objectives Complete end-of-term responsibilities, including submitting grades and materials Consult with academic personnel on curriculum, strategies, and policies Respond promptly to requests from students and staff Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Biology or Bachelor's with 18 graduate credits in Biology At least 2 years of industry or business experience in food microbiology or related area Excellent communication skills Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team Ability to interact with academic, business, and regulatory personnel Some night or weekend hours may be required Preferred Qualifications
Previous teaching experience in an academic setting 5+ years of industry experience in the teaching subject area Experience working with diverse student backgrounds Proficiency in classroom technology and innovative instructional systems Desired Competencies
Strong communication skills and role modeling Commitment to the college's mission and values Teamwork and constructive feedback utilization Ability to create a respectful and positive learning environment Time management and detail orientation Computer, analytical, and report writing skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Ability to develop rapport with diverse constituents Self-motivation and project completion skills Details
Position varies by semester. Compensation is $680 per lecture hour for new adjuncts. Part-time, non-exempt status. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. Resume will be kept on file. Statement of Commitment
