Overview
Senior Scientist I, Peptide Purification role at BioSpace. AbbVie’s mission is to discover and deliver innovative medicines and solutions that solve serious health issues today and address the medical challenges of tomorrow. Purpose: We are seeking a highly motivated Peptide Purification Scientist to join our Peptide Synthesis team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the synthesis, transformation, and purification of peptides, and will investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods/techniques to generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. The candidate should demonstrate broad and versatile technical expertise within the discipline and be able to collaborate and communicate with other groups across disciplines. Responsibilities
Laboratory Tasks: Perform routine laboratory techniques (pipetting, reagent reconstitution, concentration/dilution calculations, accurate weighing of raw materials for instrument setup and compound processing). Use RP-HPLC/MS for purification, characterization, and analysis of peptides. Setup, maintain, and troubleshoot instruments (HPLC, lyophilizers, peptide synthesizers, centrifuges, rotovap, balances). Maintain and optimize peptide purification processes to ensure consistent output with a focus on increasing peptide recovery and throughput. Follow SOPs for standardized activities; implement data-driven improvements/optimization. Identify and implement process improvements; conduct optimization experiments as needed. Troubleshoot and correct process or instrument issues. Work autonomously and be productive in performing laboratory research or method development with minimal direction. Complete hazardous waste training (RCRA/DOT) and manage hazardous waste, including bulking and coordination with handlers. Data Analysis & Technical Writing: Maintain accurate lab notebooks and records; analyze and interpret LC/MS data to assess peptide/sample quality; adjust analytical methods for QC and peptide content; contribute to development of new data analysis methods; prepare and review technical reports, SOPs, summaries, and quantitative analyses; stay current with scientific literature relevant to peptide purification and processes. Inventory & Training: Manage inventory of reagents and consumables; order supplies as needed; train new employees in lab techniques and instrument use. Compliance: Comply with all corporate/divisional policies and procedures; adhere to standards regarding code of conduct, safety, handling of hazardous materials, GxP compliance, and animal care (if applicable). Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education with typically 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education with typically 8 years of experience; PhD with no experience required. Thorough theoretical and practical understanding in peptide purification and HPLC method development; experience in peptide synthesis is highly desirable. Additional Information
