Concordia University is needing an Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Art who wants to be a part of this mission. The main campus (and this role) is located in Seward, Nebraska. Position Purpose This role involves teaching in the visual arts, with a focus on program and curriculum development in drawing, photography, video production, and digital design. The successful candidate will also advise and mentor students, as well as participate in marketing and recruitment initiatives for the Department of Art, as assigned by the Department Chair. We prefer candidates with diverse expertise across multiple media, but welcome applications from exceptional individuals with backgrounds in studio art or digital design.
Responsibilities
Teach courses in studio art and digital design, adapting to the needs of the Department of Art. The ideal candidate should be open to instructing a variety of media and closely related art courses that align with their qualifications. Preferred teaching areas include Photography, Video Production, Drawing, Integrated Materials, and Digital Design.
Engage in departmental planning, course and program assessment, curriculum development, student advising, and assistance with student recruitment.
Mentor students involved in studio research.
Provide leadership for student internships and job opportunities including maintaining and establishing contacts in business and industry.
Work with colleagues from multiple departments to serve the university.
Actively pursue scholarly research activities that are mutually beneficial.
Work with other faculty in the department to ensure that art facilities are fully operational with proper supplies and teaching tools.
Manage and maintain supplies needed for the program, as appropriate.
Demonstrate a willingness to enthusiastically embrace the mission and vision of Concordia University, Nebraska.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education-
Terminal degree (M.F.A.) in visual art or a closely related field preferred.
Candidates who have considerable experience and who agree to pursue a terminal degree will be considered.
Experience-
Appropriate successful experience in the workplace or in a classroom that will lead to successful university-level teaching and mentoring in an acceptable subset of the following areas:
Evidence of excellence in teaching, preferably at the college or university level.
Successful student-friendly advising and mentoring experience at the university level.
Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, best teaching and administrative practices; or a record of excellence in teaching.
Specialized Knowledge-
Equipment, Editing, Storytelling, Technical Workflows
Design Fundamentals, User interface and User Experience Design, Interactive Media
Proficiencies-
Proficient in the use of technology, software applications, including Adobe Products, Blackboard, Banner, and related applications, and databases necessary for teaching.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Ability to juggle multiple tasks on sometimes short deadlines.
Special Position Requirements
Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, assessment, best teaching, and administrative practices; or a record of excellence in teaching.
Able to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency both on and off campus.
