APM Terminals Elizabeth is seeking a Project HSSE Manager to lead the project Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) discipline for the Port Elizabeth upgrade project. The role ensures planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSSE strategies, compliance with local legislation, corporate standards, and industry best practices to safeguard people, property, and the environment. Purpose

As a key part of the project management team, the Project HSSE Manager will oversee the HSSE discipline for the Port Elizabeth upgrade project, driving a higher level of HSSE engagement and proactively addressing issues to maintain a positive HSSE culture. Key Responsibilities

HSSE Culture: Lead the HSSE function, supervise the team, and influence through leadership; foster proactive, continuous improvement of health and safety culture; implement the Fatal 5 program; create spaces for open dialogue about everyday challenges to understand HSSE risks. Strategic Planning: Define the HSSE vision and time strategy for the project aligned with the APM Terminals HSSE strategy and project execution guidance; draft and implement the HSSE management plan; establish HSSE legal and regulatory requirements registers; set goals and objectives; prepare annual HSSE reviews and plans. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage HSSE risks and opportunities; ensure project and supply chain compliance with HSSE roles and responsibilities; support risk reviews, KPI reporting, and methodology evaluations; develop an assurance program with audits, inspections, safety tours, and consequence management. Incident Management: Ensure transparent incident reporting to required stakeholders; facilitate learning-focused reviews; monitor supplier incident reporting quality and timeliness; lead investigations for high potential and high severity incidents; capture and share knowledge from incidents. Emergency Management: Align emergency preparedness and crisis communication with legal functions, external authorities, and terminal operations; oversee response organization across the Terminal, contractors, and suppliers. Contractor & Supply Chain: Embed HSSE in the supply chain; assess HSSE capabilities before contracting suppliers; ensure HSSE project specifications are embedded in contracts; review HSSE inputs from suppliers; ensure contractors meet safety standards and are integrated with clear expectations; perform inspections and audits with action follow-up; monitor health performance across the supply chain. Reporting & Communication: Prepare regular HSSE reports for internal and external stakeholders; support project director with HSSE reporting; facilitate collaboration among stakeholders; embed HSSE in the project meeting structure. Project Management and Terminal Operations: Understand scope of works; coordinate interfaces and high-risk activities through planning and permits to work; train and coach contractor HSSE organizations to meet HSSE requirements; maintain open and transparent frontline engagement; be present for challenging activities; arrange visitor logistics and access to the terminal and project site. Direct reporting: Elizabeth Expansion Project Director Functional reporting: Global Project Execution Senior HSSE Business Partner Geographical scope: Local (Port Elizabeth, USA) Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience managing and monitoring an outsourced supply chain in heavy industry construction or asset delivery; experience with both contractor and client roles preferred. Accountability in HSSE workstream on at least two large-scale (>$100M USD) and complex capital infrastructure projects, preferably in the USA. Experience working in culturally and technically diverse teams; strong leadership and communication skills; coaching/mentoring ability. Confidence presenting and communicating to internal and external stakeholders in native English; analytical mindset; proactive problem-solving; detail-oriented with emphasis on compliance and continuous improvement; ability to influence and drive change. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in safety and/or security management; relevant OSHA courses. Disclaimer

Job Type: Full Time Salary: $120,000 - $165,000 USD* Benefits: Health Insurance, Paid Time Off, 401k Match *The stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary and may be adjusted based on market conditions and location.
