Position Overview The Department of Population Health Management & Policy (PHMP), within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is seeking a department Chair. The Chairperson of the department of PHMP is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean and serves as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department. The Chairperson will be expected to provide visionary leadership of innovative programs with strong educator-researcher emphasis. In addition to the general oversight of the department, he or she will be responsible for strategic planning; budget development, management and allocation; recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff, and student development; management and improvement of curricula; evaluating faculty performance; program assessments and reviews, obtaining and maintaining accreditation; fundraising; interacting with other departments and university leaders to represent the goals of the department. The chairperson must implement strategies to increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of students in all degree programs and work with faculty to develop research infrastructure.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit North Carolina A & T State University is a public land grant high research institution that is committed to teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service. As the largest HBCU in the nation, our enrollment is over 13,487 students and our workforce includes over 2,000 employees. North Carolina A&T State University offers over 90-degree programs at the bachelors, master's, and doctoral levels through eight academic colleges. The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (HCHHS) comprises six departments and PHMP. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology and PhD in Social Work, PhD in Applied Psychology, and Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP). The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.
The Department of PHMP offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Services Management and prepares students through an evidence-based and competency-driven curriculum, equipping them to meet organizational and community needs and pursue careers in the ever-evolving healthcare landscape. Faculty members are involved in population-focused research and community initiatives to address health challenges and work to improve the health and well-being of populations in North Carolina, the US, and globally. The combination of high-quality academic training with practical experiences creates an academic environment that positions students to become leaders in healthcare management and to solve the complicated challenges in the modern healthcare system.
Minimum Requirements
A minimum of a PhD in Health Economics, Health Policy & Management, Health Services Research, or closely related degree with a significant research track record aligned with appointment at associate or full professor rank.
Prior teaching experience in relevant baccalaureate and/or graduate programs.
Three years of teaching and research experience related to the concepts and theories essential to population health management.
Three years experience in academic administration.
Ability to establish and sustain a strong research enterprise, and have pedagogical skills to teach in areas relevant but not limited to healthcare economics, healthcare finance, data analytics, healthcare quality and patient safety and health information management.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education The preferred candidate will have 5 years of teaching experience; at least 2 years of leadership experience; a demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships across disciplines and with external health care organizations. The preferred candidate will also have a demonstrated record of research and publications.
