L&I DOSH Compliance Safety and Health Investigator 3 (CISHI 3) – Maritime Safety

Our Values: Customer Focus, One L&I, Respect, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Learning and Growth, Reliability We are seeking a Compliance Safety and Health Investigator 3 (CISHI 3) with a strong passion for ensuring the safety and health of workers in Washington’s maritime industry. The successful candidate will have experience in maritime heavy industry, a strong understanding of safety and health rules and regulations, and excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Duties

Conduct in-depth investigations of fatalities, catastrophic accidents, and serious hazards in maritime operations. Evaluate compliance with workplace safety laws (WISHA) and recommend corrective actions, citations, or penalties when needed. Collaborate with employers, unions, attorneys, and worker representatives to build safer workplaces. Testify in legal proceedings and work closely with the Attorney General’s office on complex cases. Stay sharp through continuous training and professional development in cutting-edge safety practices. Qualifications

REQUIRED: Five years of full-time professional experience as an employer's safety director or manager, industrial hygienist, or safety and health specialist in maritime heavy industry, or equivalent experience. Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) AND at least two years of experience working in maritime heavy industry. Must possess a valid unrestricted driver license. A valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is preferred prior to hiring or must be obtained within six months of hiring and maintained throughout the term of employment. Desired

Certified Marine Chemist. Bilingual preferred; persons of all languages are encouraged to apply. Experience within BOTH maritime and safety.
