The School embodies a broad research range in applied and pure mathematics and statistics, with strengths in areas such as Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, Dynamical Systems and Integrability, Fluid Dynamics and Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematical Modelling, Mathematical Physics, Optimisation, Stochastic Modelling and Fractional Calculus. Role Summary
The purpose of this role is to conduct independent research and deliver excellent teaching in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. A Lecturer (level B) is expected to develop scholarly research aligned with the School’s strengths and contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses. About The Role
Level B — $127k - $150k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading Continuing Full-time (35 hours per week) The role reports to the Head of Applied Mathematics and has no direct reports. Specific Responsibilities For This Role Include
Actively carry out high quality and high impact research aligned with School strengths with a view to publication in influential journals. Collaborate and work independently on research grant proposals to national competitive grant agencies and other funding bodies. Develop research collaborations within the School and with other groups on campus and/or industry, nationally and internationally. Disseminate research findings at seminars and conferences within the School, UNSW, nationally and internationally. Supervise Honours and Masters coursework projects; supervise PhD and Masters research students. Contribute to the design of programs and courses; deliver high quality teaching across mathematics and a wide range of non-mathematics courses at all levels, including Honours and Masters. Participate in school activities and take on leadership roles when required. Undertake administrative duties as specified and participate in committees as required. Engage with industry and the community to develop productive relationships and attract funding where appropriate. Work collaboratively across the Faculty and UNSW and contribute to mentoring of staff. Align with the Code of Conduct and Values. About The Successful Applicant
(Selection Criteria) To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have
PhD or equivalent qualification in relevant mathematical sciences Demonstrated research ability in an area of applied mathematics aligned with School directions Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence Evidence of research collaborations Capacity to conduct productive international-level research Strong publication record in top, peer-reviewed journals Ability to produce high quality external grant applications Ability to supervise PhD students and willingness to undertake compliance and supervisor training as required Experience in student supervision including Honours and Masters projects High level oral and written communication skills and ability to network with a diverse range of students and staff Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality and innovative teaching and student experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels Track record of involvement with the profession and/or industry Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build relationships Understanding of UNSW aims, objectives and values and related policies Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to training You should provide a cover letter and systematically address the selection criteria listed in the position description in your application.
