Assistant Professor - Department of English
The Department of English at Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor, beginning Spring 2026. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, and contributing services in areas of expertise as noted below. The candidate will share responsibility for department and committee assignments, will perform administrative and supervisory work, as well as other related functions.
As a community college in the CUNY system, our diverse student population primarily takes general education and lower division courses for university transfer. The teaching workload will not exceed 24 hours for the academic year, with optional summer teaching. The successful candidate will teach English courses and electives; maintain an active research schedule; participate in Departmental and College activities including committees, course and program assessment, and curriculum development; and provide academic support for students. Some evening or weekend teaching may be required.

Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in English or related fields such as TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Language and Literacy, Composition and Rhetoric
Or MFA or equivalent degree
Preferred Qualifications
Experience, preferably at the community college level, teaching diverse student populations
Record of scholarly activity within the field of composition, literature, literary studies, or creative writing
Experience in online teaching modalities and adaptability to engage students across all platforms (face-to-face, asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid)
Experience with student-centered learning
Experience with high-impact pedagogy or equivalent practice
Compensation Salary $84,011 - $91,922. Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
