Overview
As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for executing capital projects and performing various engineering support for capital projects. The job involves all facets of scope development, AR development and submittal, detailed project design, and construction supervision. Your mission is to identify and implement process improvements which result in higher throughput, improved efficiencies, recognizable cost savings and more consistent product quality. The job includes the design, construction, and start-up of capital projects to support these improvements where necessary. Typically assigned responsibility for approved projects of approximately $25,000 to $3 million+ in value, and you are expected to maintain control over several projects simultaneously. Coordinate and supervise design efforts and provide field monitoring to ensure construction compliance with designs. Incorporate safety and regulatory compliance into all assigned project scope and design. In conjunction with Plant Leadership Team, develop annual and long-term capital plans for the site. Conduct and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Start Up Safety reviews, Process Safety Management (PSM) audits, and Incident Investigations. Develop process flow sheets, preliminary plant layouts and piping and instrument diagrams. Perform or direct preparation of process and detail design calculations as required. Check detail design work, drawings and calculations performed by designers and drafting personnel. Select equipment to perform a specific function and develop or direct development of specifications for the equipment or process. Develop cost estimates, construction schedules and maintain cost control on projects. Develop bid packages and solicit and evaluate bids from various contractors. Approve purchase requisitions for equipment and construction activities within the limits set by the appropriation and grant of authority. Establish and maintain project files and enter material in permanent equipment and process files. Supervise compilation of process and equipment information and may develop preliminary operating procedures. Coordinate, control and supervise design personnel assigned to projects. Work independently with minimum supervision. Maintain current knowledge or access to applicable codes and regulations. Protect all proprietary information and property against loss of any kind. This includes confidential reports and memos, process and product knowledge, equipment and research methodology. Ensure contractor compliance with site contractor safety policy. Required Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering; other Engineering degrees will be considered with demonstrated Project Engineering experience. Minimum of 5 years’ experience performing project management, with a strong preference for candidates with chemical or fermentation industry experience. Liaise with Process Engineering, Maintenance, Management, and Production personnel to provide process specifications as required to fully implement project improvements. Maintain project control and accountability until the projects are accepted by the manufacturing group and all project goals are met. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Other qualifications and competencies required in this position include initiative, coaching and leadership capabilities, problem-solving skills, innovative thinking, and a willingness to focus on customer needs. Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing experience is a plus. Working knowledge of SAP is a plus. Seniority level
