Your Role on the Team The FP&A Sr. Analyst reports to the Associate Director, School of Medicine Finance and works closely with the Director, School of Medicine Finance. This role serves as the Dean\'s Office FP&A partner to multiple clinical departments of varying size and complexity and is responsible for supporting FP&A services that enable department leaders and SOM leadership to make timely decisions and achieve financial results.
The position supports the SOM\'s annual budgeting process, quarterly forecast, variance analysis, and special projects including financial systems transformations supporting UCI Medical Center.Responsibilities include analyzing actual vs. plan reporting, explaining drivers, tracking key clinical operational metrics, and developing assumptions to model future financial reports. The role provides consulting and strategic support to SOM clinical departments and Sr. leadership, guided by the Associate Director, School of Medicine Finance, to understand future performance, assess risks, and align resources with strategic goals. The analyst manages relationships with SOM departments and stakeholders through strategic planning analyses, scenario planning, and providing actionable insights. The role also supports school-wide analyses and contributes to financial planning and reporting, including reports due to Campus, rolling forecasting, and long-range planning. The position supports the quarterly reporting publication that consolidates SOM\'s financial performance and KPIs.
The role requires leading high-impact projects with significant consequences for SOM, applying broad accounting and FP&A experience to analyze complex clinical operations with organization-wide impact, and using judgement to select assumptions and follow healthcare trends. It serves as a subject matter expert for clinical departments\' financial performance and develops new metrics, reporting, and processes to improve decision support and efficiency.
What It Takes to Be Successful Required:
Solid understanding of financial modeling and forecasting techniques with the ability to build robust models, develop scenarios, stress-test assumptions, and provide insights for strategic planning and decision-making
Strong presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into executive presentations
Knowledge of GAAP or GASB, finance policies, practices, and systems
Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources
Ability to present complex finance information clearly in verbal and written form
Proficiency with spreadsheet and database tools to synthesize complex financial analysis and reporting
Interpersonal and consulting skills across organizational levels
Strong service orientation, critical thinking, and attention to detail
Organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment
Ability to adapt to changing priorities
Healthcare industry experience preferred
CPA/MBA preferred with focus on Finance, Accounting, Business, Statistics or related field or equivalent experience/training
10 years of experience with BA/BS or equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
1 to 3 years in accounting, 3-5 years in FP&A
Preferred:
CPA (inactive) preferred
