Overview
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) enforces criminal provisions of the state\'s tax laws administered by the Comptroller\'s Office, as well as the Penal, Transportation and Health and Safety codes. CID officers make arrests and conduct long-term, complex investigations referred to state and federal prosecutors. Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week with occasional evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours may change based on business need. Responsibilities
Perform law enforcement investigative work, including conducting criminal investigations, obtaining and executing warrants, assisting other law enforcement agencies, conducting undercover investigations, making arrests, and providing security. Locate, contact, interview, and take statements from witnesses, suspects, and individuals with knowledge of tax fraud. Evaluate, summarize, and prepare investigative reports for prosecution. Maintain case files and evidence; manage investigative caseloads. Conduct administrative and criminal investigations and inspections, enforce agency regulations, collect and evaluate evidence, and testify in hearings, trials, and other official proceedings. Prepare reports of investigations and criminal cases for prosecution and maintain records of investigative cases, evidence, and property. Confer with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to obtain or share information about criminals and criminal activity. Work with county and district attorneys and/or federal prosecutors to prepare for prosecution efforts and respond to inquiries. Testify in formal administrative and criminal court proceedings. Participate in joint initiatives with other governmental law enforcement agencies. Serve as a field training officer (as applicable) and provide guidance to others (as applicable). Perform related work as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, business, criminal justice, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience: Experience in law enforcement work. Licenses and Certifications: Must be certified as a Texas peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver\'s license, current proof of automobile insurance and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. Physical Requirements
Physical demands include being able to perform an arrest; position may involve sedentary office work with mobility for investigative duties; extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach; cognitive abilities to learn, recall, and apply practices; attention to detail; color vision requirements. Ability to transport a tablet and printer, lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds; travel as required. Participation in a physical readiness assessment. Employees are required to use personal mobile phones as part of two-factor/multi-factor authentication for secure CPA system access. Critical/emergency calls/texts may be received on your cell phone. Duties include investigating offenses, obtaining and executing warrants, locating and interviewing witnesses and suspects, preparing investigative reports, maintaining case files, and testifying in proceedings. Knowledge of police methods, criminal laws and regulations; investigative and law enforcement methods; state and federal statutes and rules (Texas Penal Code and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure); agency policies and procedures. Skill in handling firearms and radio equipment; defensive tactics; interviewing; computer use; clear communication; problem solving. Ability to conduct investigations; secure and process crime scenes; collect and preserve evidence; prepare concise reports; communicate effectively; maintain confidentiality; follow information security policies; adapt to changing demands; meet internal and external customer needs.
