Overview
Red Cat Holdings is a leading innovator in drone technology, specializing in mission-ready solutions for defense, public safety, and commercial applications. This full-time Senior Associate Tax Accounting role is based in Salt Lake City, UT (at Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat) and reports to the Corporate Controller.
Position Summary We are seeking a tax-focused professional with deep experience in tax compliance, reporting, and strategy to join our growing team. The role focuses on managing all aspects of tax operations across multiple jurisdictions, including sales and use tax, corporate income tax, and assisting with tax planning and audits. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and able to navigate the complexity of multi-jurisdictional tax compliance in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting : Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales/use tax returns across multiple states and jurisdictions. Maintain nexus tracking and ensure timely registration in new states as needed. Support the preparation and coordination of corporate federal, state, and local income tax filings (in coordination with external tax advisors). Ensure compliance with tax laws and filing requirements in all applicable jurisdictions.
Tax Accounting & Documentation : Prepare monthly tax accruals and reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts. Assist with provision for income taxes and support tax footnote disclosures for financial reporting (ASC 740). Maintain detailed documentation to support all tax filings, audits, and internal controls. Monitor legislative changes and assess impacts on the company’s tax position.
Audit & Risk Support : Serve as the primary point of contact for sales tax audits and tax authority inquiries. Support annual external audits, providing tax-related schedules, documentation, and explanations as needed.
Process Improvement & Strategic Support : Continuously assess and improve tax processes for efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Work with cross-functional teams (legal, operations, finance) to ensure tax compliance for new products, services, or geographic expansions. Assist with the implementation and maintenance of tax automation tools (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, or similar).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
2–5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on tax
Public accounting experience in tax and/or experience at a publicly traded company
CPAs preferred
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. SAP Business One)
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
Availability to work occasional overtime or irregular hours to meet deadlines or assist with special projects, as needed
Aptitude for maintaining confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee information
Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, occasionally high-pressure environment
Capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information
Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer
Manual dexterity required for data entry, filing, and preparing documentation
Effective communication skills for phone, email, and in-person interactions across all levels of the organization
Ability to move throughout the office to access files, office equipment, and meet with staff as needed
Occasional lifting of office materials up to 15 pounds
Ability to attend on-site meetings at Teal's Salt Lake City facility, with the flexibility to work remotely as needed
