Requisition No: 857812 Agency: Agriculture and Consumer Services Working Title: SENIOR ATTORNEY - 42000370 FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES — OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER, GENERAL COUNSEL’S OFFICE OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY The Senior Attorney will represent the Office of Agricultural Water Policy and provide legal assistance to the Division of Aquaculture. The role involves advising on agricultural water quality, conservation, and related statutory provisions, including parts of ch. 369, 373, 403, 570, 576, and 582, Florida Statutes, as well as parts of ch. 253, 379, and 597 for aquaculture regulation and lands. Minimum Requirements

Admission to the Florida Bar

and

two (2) years of professional experience

in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings.

Responsibilities

Render legal advice and counsel to the Commissioner, the Commissioner’s staff, and other department employees. Handle complex cases at trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts and in administrative proceedings under the Florida Administrative Procedures Act. Handle contract matters, real estate proceedings, legal opinions, and legal research; prepare, review, and approve contracts, leases, deeds, or other legal instruments; assist with real estate closings involving department property. Attend staff meetings and stay informed about litigation and decisions affecting department statutes. Represent the Commissioner, General Counsel’s office, and the department in liaison with the Florida Attorney General and other agencies; participate in judicial and bar functions. Attend legislative committee meetings, monitor proposed legislation, and advise the Commissioner and department staff. Draft rules and regulations, conduct conferences, workshops, public hearings, and manage rule adoption procedures; monitor outside counsel in litigation. Provide leadership and maintain professional relationships with department employees and the public.
