Infection Prevention Specialist/ Full Time/ Day Shift/ Jackson West Medical Center

Overview The Infection Prevention Specialist investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections to determine the source and ensure control. Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines for infection control and collaborates with the medical team.
Responsibilities
Investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections to determine source and ensure control.
Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements (JCAHO, OSHA, AHCA) and guidelines (CDC) for infection control; plans and implements changes as necessary.
Conducts surveillance to identify infectious diseases, healthcare-associated infections, and opportunities to control infections and communicable diseases.
Analyzes data, evaluates practices, makes recommendations, and monitors identified issues.
Applies microbiology, epidemiology, and communicable diseases knowledge to identify trends or clusters of infections.
Collaborates with the medical team to interpret microbiological data and evaluate treatments related to infection control.
Identifies and reports reportable diseases to Public Health; ensures follow-up and supports procedures.
Provides education on infection control techniques and infectious diseases; conducts mandatory in-service education.
Maintains data, logs, statistics, and databases; ensures accuracy and confidentiality.
Participates in orientation, community seminars, and continuing education to maintain competency.
Acts as Infection Control liaison with Employee Health Office; prepares/presents information to committees as required.
Participates in quality improvement projects and walks rounds to assess compliance and identify improvements.
Provides on-call infection control coverage as assigned; supports continuous quality improvement.
May prepare simple cultures for environmental and individual studies; reviews sterilization and disinfection techniques and recommends changes as necessary.
Qualifications
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.
CBIC certification strongly preferred; BLS and other applicable life support certifications required on hire with 6 months validity and maintained during employment.
Critical skills: data analysis, prioritization, communication, judgment, and proficiency with job-related technology and software.
Credentials
Certification by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) strongly preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and other life support certifications required at hire and maintained.
Working Conditions / Physical & Environmental
Physical: extended standing/walking; ability to lift 21–100 pounds with/without devices; frequent computer use.
Environmental: fast-paced, high-pressure with diverse interactions; exposure to infectious/clinical environments; PPE required; reasonable accommodations available.
