Summary

Works for the City of McKinney. This position performs a wide variety of law enforcement activities under general supervision. Responsibilities include collecting and dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, apprehending people with warrants, transporting prisoners, parking enforcement, and court security. Duties may involve exposure to life-threatening circumstances and are performed in accordance with State Statutes and department policies. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Complies with city policies and procedures, including the City of McKinney Employee Handbook. Adheres to assigned work schedule and attendance policies. Drives to and from locations as assigned. Provides public assistance and service (e.g., changing tires). Exercises independent judgment to determine detentions, searches, arrests, and use of force within legal guidelines. Performs law enforcement functions as needed: prevent/discover crimes, check buildings/vehicles/persons, maintain high visibility, issue citations, pursue suspects, transport arrestees, victims, witnesses, or others as required; respond to incidents, enforce laws, and coordinate with courts. Enforces State and local traffic laws to ensure safety. Identifies and issues municipal citations for misdemeanor offenses. Demonstrates effective communication in court and maintains thorough reports and records (arrest reports, warrants, dispositions). Attends in-service training to stay current on laws, enforcement methods, and trends. Reads, writes, and comprehends legal and non-legal documents in English; prepares required reports, citations, affidavits, warrants, and related documents. Communicates effectively with supervisors, peers, civilian staff, groups, and citizens. Pursues fleeing subjects and performs rescue operations as needed; may enter and exit police vehicles quickly. Performs searches of people, vehicles, buildings, and large outdoor areas; may involve long periods of standing or walking. Endures verbal and mental stress when confronted by hostile individuals. Develops and maintains relationships with other City departments. Assists with emergencies and disasters, directs traffic, and may administer basic emergency medical aid; may assist Fire Department personnel as directed. Prepares and issues warrant notifications; clears warrants from court and regional systems; serves warrants and arrests; acts as bailiff in court and coordinates safety and security in the courtroom. Transports prisoners between jurisdictions; weekend prisoner transports on a rotating schedule. Submits files to Judges and prosecutors; contacts other agencies regarding arrested subjects; researches information for city prosecutor. Complies with vehicle registration and equipment checks; acts as liaison between court and outside law enforcement agencies. Verifies prisoner status for possible release and authorizes release when appropriate; processes time-served requests. Serves court summons/subpoenas and files charges as requested; complies with TLETS reporting and maintains TCOLE records. Maintains control of weapons and equipment; required to qualify with agency firearms and operate under stress. Handles court-related tasks, such as picking up documents, transporting deposits, and preparing the courtroom for sessions. Patrols Downtown for parking and safety violations; issues parking citations; educates the public on parking regulations; collects data and images for evidence; testifies in Municipal Court as needed. Ability to perform skilled movements (firearms, restraints, driving, equipment operation). Maintain valid Texas Class C driver’s license; ability to work weekends on a rotating basis for prisoner transport; comply with TCOLE and City qualifications. Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any work experience at acceptable proficiency levels may substitute for some qualifications. A high school diploma or GED is required (some college preferred) and at least two (2) years of prior peace officer experience. Possession of a Basic Peace Officer Certificate from the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Talking and hearing for most of the time; occasional sitting, standing, walking, handling, reaching; ability to lift up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 100+ pounds; special vision requirements include near/far, color, peripheral, depth, and focus. Work Environment

Exposure to outdoor conditions for a portion of the time; possible exposure to fumes, wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and working at heights.
