Overview
The Control Technician 2 is responsible for the fabrication of control panels, field installation, and commissioning procedures associated with control panels and field instrumentation. This role includes troubleshooting and calibration of field instruments, equipment, and control panels, testing and analysis, documentation, and updating drawings of finished control panels. The technician is also responsible for the care of all M.C. Dean, Inc. provided shop tools, meters, and related equipment.
Responsibilities include:
Following verbal instructions and reading work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and assembly sequence.
Performing sheet metal work, punching holes, wiring, painting, and welding.
Providing on-the-job training to new employees.
Understanding and following company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools.
Ensuring work completion according to schedule and quality standards.
Having at least three years of experience in a shop environment and a minimum of one year of electrical experience, with a high school diploma or GED.
Experience and certifications:
Obtain, at the company’s expense, CPR and First Aid certifications within six months of hire and maintain these certifications.
Pass a background check and drug test.
Work experience requirements:
Ability to interpret control circuits, schematics, and line diagrams.
Skill in selecting control components and preparing BOMs according to specifications and standards such as NEC and UL508A.
Experience in fabricating, designing, and installing control panels.
Experience with installation and troubleshooting of Building Automation Systems (Distech, Siemens, Niagara).
Wiring and testing PLCs, VFDs, and other control components.
Proficiency with test equipment like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialty testers.
Understanding of industrial automation and control schemes.
Ability to troubleshoot industrial control circuits and components in manufacturing environments.
Tools used:
Power tools including drills, saws, punch sets (corded, cordless, hydraulic).
Test equipment including Fluke meters, Hi-Pot, Meggar, Relay Tester, Resistance Tester, Ground Tester, Oscilloscope.
Use of laptops with manufacturer's software for circuit testing and troubleshooting.
Physical abilities:
Lift at least 100 pounds and 60 pounds for extended periods.
Relocate a 12-foot ladder without assistance.
Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
Perform routine physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication skills in English.
Recognize potential problems but not necessarily solve them.
Apply general rules to specific problems and synthesize information.
See details within a few feet, and listen and understand spoken information.
