The company operates three successful brewpubs (DryHop Brewers, Corridor Brewery & Provisions, and Crushed by Giants Brewing Company). Job title – Head Brewer Department – Brewery Location of the Position – Chicago, IL Title of Supervisor – Director of Brewing Operations Type of Employment – Full Time FLSA Status – Exempt
Brewery Operations
Wort Production Malt Handling (unload and stack all grain and hop deliveries) Evaluate and monitor beer and raw materials Cellar Operations Work with Director of Brewing Operations and individually on recipe formulation Cleaning and Sanitizing Procedures Yeast Handling Fundamental knowledge of plumbing and machinery mechanics/maintenance Maintain constant communication with Director of Brewing Operations on any issues and their development Prioritize, clarify and follow through with department goals and objectives with brewing staff so they understand, unite and achieve Participate in Corridor events and represent the brewery with passion Set-up, participate in collaborations with other brewers/restaurants Participate in beer festivals, customer relations and marketing/promotions/charitable events. Work with other team members to successfully complete specific projects and support overall organizational goals Attend bi-weekly Management meeting(s) Work with Owner, General Manager, & Director of Brewing Operations on all event planning. Fully trained on operation and calibration of Crowler & Cask seamer. Packaging, specifically oversee and work canning line on packaging days. Monitor and contribute to Social Media postings as needed. Cross train at all brewery group locations Assist when needed at other brewery group locations
Job Qualifications
Requirements:
2+ years of brewing experience in a brewpub or production brewery Brewed many styles of craft beer and have created recipes of your own Direct knowledge of all phases of the production process: from grain inspection to CIP to kegging Excellent written and verbal communication skills On the spot decision making skills The ability and desire to operate with a great deal of autonomy and no hand-holding The ability to meet deadlines or work more than 40 hours a week, as needed Driver’s license and a willingness to travel locally.
Preferred, but not required:
Formal brewing education Degree in a natural science field Experience in a Brew Pub environment
Physical Requirements
Regularly:
Speak and hear conversations (in person and using a telephone) Hear and interpret atmospheric noise Use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel Reach with hands and arms Lift and/or move 55 pounds Lift and/or move 165 pounds Operate a non-commercial automobile Use and handle chemicals
Frequently:
Stand, walk, stoop or kneel Type Climb and/or straddle
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to: (i) a factory/production area environment in which the noise level is usually low to moderate and occasionally loud; (ii) extreme temperatures; and (iii) humidity, moisture, slick surfaces, etc.
