The Lynchburg Police Department is currently seeking hourly Virginia DCJS certified officers. VA Certified Officers will complete this application, personal history statement, polygraph examination, psychological examination, background investigation, physical examination, and medical examination prior to employment. Must have experience as an officer in a law enforcement organization of similar size and functional responsibility as the Lynchburg Police Department. Will be required to work a minimum of 8 hours each week. Authorized to work additional hours up to a maximum of 28 hours each week. There are no benefits associated with this position. Previously employed law-enforcement officers are eligible to apply. Must complete the hiring process within specific timelines: Resigned – Separated from Service less than 3 years ago Retired – Retired from service less than 5 years ago You will receive 40 hours of recertification training and be back in compliance with DCJS. You must complete the entire hiring process within your specific timeline to be eligible for this program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. Operate a patrol vehicle to observe violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order. Respond to dispatched calls such as domestic situations, alarms, advice calls, etc. Enforce local and state laws and issue summonses for parking and traffic violations. Conduct traffic checks using radar. Interview suspects, witnesses, and victims regarding reported crimes and complete detailed incident reports. Obtain and serve warrants, make arrests, and testify in court. Maintain various records and files such as court appearances. Conduct crime scene searches, collect and preserve evidence, and submit lab reports. Investigate and report traffic accidents and direct traffic when necessary. Assist with criminal investigations, conduct stakeouts, present evidence, interview victims and witnesses, and handle property and evidence duties. Report unsafe conditions in streets or public facilities. Prepare detailed reports. Respond to animal control calls when animal warden is unavailable. Assist at special events such as crowd control, VIP security, etc. Provide public services like unlocking vehicles and escorts. Participate in tactical responses to threats such as terrorism, hostage situations, and disasters; may serve as a tactical training officer. Assist with person check calls, Emergency Custody Orders, Temporary Detention Orders, including transports across the state. ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to citizens may be assigned. During emergencies or declared States of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments to ensure service delivery. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Must be a VA Certified Law Enforcement Officer. High school diploma or GED required; Associates or higher degree preferred. Possession of a valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record, with at least three years of continuous valid licensing, no DUI convictions within the last three years, and a pattern of safe driving. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 NIMS training within 90 days of employment; higher levels may be required.
