The Lynchburg Police Department offers a lateral transfer program for Virginia DCJS certified officers. VA Certified Officers will complete this application, polygraph, psychological, background, physical, and medical examinations prior to employment.
$5,000 sign-on bonus All Police Officers will receive 40 hours of vacation and 40 hours of sick leave upon hire 100% of Law Enforcement Officer credit will be used to determine salary and rank. (Jail officers, courtroom security officers, sworn security officers, and other sworn officers not engaged in policing similar to Lynchburg Police responsibilities are not eligible.) Years of service required before obtaining rank as a Virginia Certified Officer:
A minimum of 2 years to obtain POII - $53,006.80 - $55,723.20
A minimum of 4 years to obtain POIII - $57,512.00 - $79,185.60
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate patrol vehicle to observe violations, suspicious activities, and disturbances; Respond to dispatched calls such as domestic incidents, alarms, advice calls, etc.; Enforce laws and issue summonses for violations; Conduct traffic checks and use radar; Interview suspects, witnesses, victims; complete reports; Obtain warrants, make arrests, testify in court; Maintain records and files; Conduct crime scene searches, collect evidence, submit lab reports; Investigate traffic accidents and direct traffic; Assist in criminal investigations, conduct stakeouts, present evidence, interview witnesses, handle property and evidence duties; Report unsafe conditions; Prepare detailed reports; Respond to animal control calls when needed; Assist at events like parades, VIP security; Provide public services such as unlocking vehicles and escorts; Serve as field training officer and instruct junior officers; Assist in scheduling and supervising subordinate officers; conduct roll call; Participate in tactical responses to threats and disasters; may serve as a tactical training officer.
Additional Duties:
Perform other duties to serve citizens; During emergencies or declared States of Emergency, accept special assignments as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Requirements:
Must be a VA Certified Law Enforcement Officer; High school diploma or GED required; higher education preferred; Valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; at least three years of continuous licensing, no recent DUI convictions, and a pattern of safe driving; Complete IS100 and IS700 NIMS training within 90 days of employment; higher levels may be required.
