Faculty, Mathematics Job Description Summary
The Mathematics Faculty supports learning on campus and across distance learning modalities. This position is responsible for preparing and delivering coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and belonging for all. This position starts in August 2026. Job Description
The Mathematics Department offers developmental level and college credit courses on campus, at 11 campus locations, and online, in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. The department also offers dual enrollment college credit courses for area high school students. The department emphasizes curriculum responsive to student needs, including non-STEM alternatives to traditional tracks and corequisite models for developmental-level students, with ongoing updates based on data to support student success. Principal Responsibilities and Duties Prepare and teach Mathematics courses to a multicultural student population based on approved course learning outcomes, using varied instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and disciplinary standards. Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities. Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback aligned with program learning outcomes and departmental expectations. Mentor students in the Mathematics program. Provide teaching and mentoring that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected characteristics. Remain current through professional development activities. Support division and department goals through active, collegial engagement in decision-making and planning. Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, or executive leaders. Technology Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and other classroom technologies. Proficiency with an online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to develop and manage course content and administrative duties (e.g., posting office hours, syllabi). Principal Professional Standards Appropriate use of the college’s learning management system. Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final grades. Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions. Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success. Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, and departmental activities and meetings. Demonstrate civility and collegiality in all interactions. Comply with college policies and professional standards for teaching in a community college. Required Education Master's Degree in Mathematics; or Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics In accordance with SACSCOC requirements. SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on courses taught within the discipline. Qualities of a Successful Candidate Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment. Commitment to positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Dynamic, inclusive instructional delivery methods for learners with varying proficiency.
