Overview

Post-doctoral Fellow position based in Kensington, Sydney, Australia. Full-time, 35 hours per week, 3 year fixed-term contract. Remuneration: $113,911 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading. Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must have full rights to work in Australia. Organisations: School of Optometry & Vision Science, UNSW. The role supports the UNSW Retinal Research Group and focuses on developing novel anti-angiogenic and antifibrotic therapies for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), using emerging drug candidates and nanoparticle-based delivery systems. Responsibilities

Execute the research plan from in vitro mechanistic studies to in vivo disease models to identify and validate new drug candidates for AMD. Investigate therapeutic potential of emerging drug candidates and nanoparticle-based delivery systems. Perform in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo experiments to test therapeutic candidates; conduct assays evaluating disease processes (cell migration, tissue remodelling, molecular markers). Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and assess advanced drug delivery approaches. Prepare, analyse, and interpret experimental data; ensure reproducibility and rigour. Prepare and submit animal and human ethics applications as required. Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and project reports to BrightFocus Foundation. Contribute to supervision and training of honours and HDR students; work with collaborators from chemistry, engineering, ophthalmology, and other disciplines to meet project milestones. Demonstrate expertise in in vivo mouse models (preferably ocular models such as laser-induced choroidal neovascularisation); perform cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry techniques. Maintain high-quality research output relative to opportunity, including publications and conference presentations. Qualifications

PhD in biomedical sciences, optometry, vision science, ophthalmology, pharmacology, or a related discipline. Strong wet-laboratory research experience and ability to conduct experiments using in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models. Experience with cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and data analysis; ability to prepare and interpret experimental data. Experience preparing ethics applications and contributing to high-quality research outputs. Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and to supervise or train honours/HDR students as required. Benefits & Workplace Culture
