Responsibilities
Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
Promotes and demonstrates an accident- and injury-free culture; informs, encourages, and supports associates to meet safety requirements.
PerForms Safety Engagements, solicits feedback for program improvement, and conducts audits with IMS/HSE/DOT/DHS activities.
Regularly participates in and leads safety meetings; provides safety and compliance-related training and develops content as appropriate.
Maintains regulatory permits, certifications, and licenses for Airgas plant and retail branch operations in Alaska.
Develops, trains, implements, and supports the Driver Mentor program aligned with regional and divisional objectives.
Assists facility managers with ongoing EHS and IMS requirements, facility inspections, corrective actions, and closure of actions.
May assist with pre-employment interviewing, driver demonstrations, and evaluations for safety-sensitive positions.
Provides Smith System Training for employees operating company vehicles; trains drivers on fleet tools, safety practices, and routing.
Performs annual driver demonstrations; prepares findings and recommendations for corrective action with follow-up coaching and retraining when deficiencies are observed.
Responds immediately to emergency situations; leads accident and injury investigations and incident reviews with management.
Coordinates with the Safety Director and insurance providers for workers’ compensation, light duty assessments, and return-to-work initiatives.
Drives commercial vehicles as needed for training, demonstrations, and emergencies.
Compiles data and assists in Tier II, EPA RMP, and other environmental reporting for Federal and State agencies.
Supports office and administrative duties including maintenance of safety records and regular reporting on IMS/Safety & Compliance activities to management.
Leads the Alaska Airgas Emergency Response Operations (AERO) team.
Promotes the Be, Act, Engage framework of employee performance and supports colleagues in performing related work as needed.
Qualifications Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial or occupational safety preferred, or a related discipline.
- ASP, CSP, SMS, or CIH certification preferred.
- Valid Class A CDL with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements preferred.
Experience:
- 3–5 years in a safety-focused capacity or prior safety leadership experience in a related industry preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EPA, DHS, FDA rules and regulations.
- Experience driving fleet vehicles or CMV with CDL preferred; forklift operation preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a detail-oriented environment.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and appropriate auto insurance.
- Proficient computer skills (Google systems).
- Strong problem-solving, data gathering, and analytical skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Willingness and ability to wear required PPE.
