Overview
Unit Coordinator, Natural Resource Specialist 3 (NRS3) – State Lands Unit Coordinator. Recruitment #2025-9-3129. Full-time, Permanent, Represented position (WPEA). Location: Olympic Region – Port Angeles, WA.

Responsibilities
Act as project manager in the implementation of the 5-year harvest plan
Organize, monitor, and evaluate the work of the region and division staff
Direct timber sales staff in general sale layout, road location, and Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) implementation
Develop and foster collaborative relationships with diverse working partners
Supervise a work unit of 2 field foresters, including planning work, setting performance standards, performing evaluations, and guiding training
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Knowledge of forestry principles as applied to the Northwestern United States (silviculture, sales layout, logging methods, engineering, reforestation, and intensive forest practices)
Experience using topographic maps, aerial photos, compass, clinometer, radio, laser rangefinder, and GPS equipment
Proficient computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, ARC-GIS) with the ability to learn new software
Experience with timber sale layout
Experience with contract compliance
Experience implementing current forest management plans, Forest Practice rules, Habitat Conservation Plan, Policy for Sustainable Forests, and other applicable policies and statutes
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to resolve conflicts and communicate with diverse groups
Ability to think critically, analyze, and make decisions in a dynamic environment; able to work independently and in a team

Compliance with laws, regulations, and public records retention and requests

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment
Office and field work in forestry settings often on steep/uneven terrain and in inclement weather
Occasional commuting to reach job sites and trainings; primary travel by assigned vehicle; use of specialty and pool vehicles as needed
Valid driver’s license and two years of driving experience; license must not be suspended, revoked, or restricted; driving is an essential function
Finalists may be required to provide driving records from states where licenses were held in the past three years
Desired Qualifications
Four years of professional forestry field experience involving timber sale design and layout, forest roads, administration of timber sale contracts, or professional cruising
One year of supervisory experience
