Overview
Advanced Practice Provider (O-5 Billet) Supervisory role at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within the IHSC. Supervises Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners at IHSC sites, provides training and scheduling oversight, and delivers direct detainee care as required. Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as direct supervisor and rater to federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP) including Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners at IHSC sites. Provide leadership and oversight of APP onboarding and training. Participate in national APP training initiatives as required. Assist with credentialing and privileging processes as needed. Oversee APP peer review processes and augment clinical leadership in collaboration with the clinical director. Coordinate APP work schedules at IHSC sites and lead regular on-site APP meetings and in-service training. Act as Acting Regional APP or Acting Chief APP as required. Provide direct care to detainees via scheduled appointments, emergencies, or urgent care visits. Work within the IHSC Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Collaborative Practice and Prescriptive Authority Agreement (CP/PAA) and consult with the physician/Clinical Director for complex cases. Coordinate health care needs of detainees, including referrals to off-site consultants; interpret diagnostic and laboratory results; manage TB-related activities and DOT when applicable. Ensure infection prevention and universal precautions; document care in health records; maintain patient confidentiality and readiness for duty; maintain CPR/BLS certification and ongoing professional education. May serve as medical escort for detainees as needed and coordinate interpretation/translation services as required for LEP or communication disabilities. Perform other duties as assigned and maintain flexibility to meet schedule changes. Requirements and Conditions
You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. You must successfully pass a background investigation and a drug screen. Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must certify Selective Service registration. Service Remaining Requirement Agreement: 18 to 24-month commitment to IHSC upon appointment. Assignment Pay Agreement: must not have a current arrangement, or must fulfill it within 90 days of application if applicable. Applicants must be a current USPHS Commissioned Corps Officer or USPHS CAD candidate. Civilians are not eligible. IHSC TDY On-Call Schedule (ITOS) requirements for PHS officers. Superior oral and written communication skills; strong analytical abilities; excellent interpersonal and listening skills. Strong organizational, time management, problem solving, and decision-making abilities; integrity, cultural competency. Maintains unrestricted licensure and DEA registration; meets continuing education and licensure requirements; supervisory or team lead experience of >2 years. Education and Licensure
Physician Assistant: unrestricted PA state license, NCCPA certification, ARC-PA accreditation, PA-C. Nurse Practitioner: unrestricted NP licensure (FNP/AGNP), national certification (AANP/ANCC), and ARNP graduate from an accredited program; knowledge of state Nurse Practice Act; ongoing licensure currency and DEA registration. May involve lifting >30 pounds; CPR/emergency care; assist detainees or staff in emergencies; ability to respond to emergencies in austere environments. Will require appropriate infection control practices and diverse working environments, including detainee care and potential travel. Additional Information
This position is located within DHS ICE IHSC, reporting to the site Clinical Director. It is a supervisory role and the Regional APP serves as the incumbent's reviewing official. The IHSC workforce includes PHS officers, federal staff, and contractors across multiple facilities, with direct detainee care and off-site medical support. Supervisory controls include DHS, ICE, and ERO; PHS and other agencies provide oversight as applicable. How You Will Be Evaluated
