Major Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the direct supervisor and rater to federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to include both Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioner at IHSC sites; provides leadership and oversight of APP onboarding and training; participates in national APP training initiatives as required; assists in credentialing, privileging, and peer review processes; augments clinical leadership in collaboration with the clinical director; coordinates APP work schedule and regular on-site meetings and training; serves as Acting Regional APP or Acting Chief APP as required; provides direct care to detainees via scheduled appointments, emergency or urgent care; performs functions as outlined in the IHSC Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Collaborative Practice and Prescriptive Authority Agreement (CP/PAA); consults with the physician/clinical director for complex cases; provides infirmary care including admission, discharge, and daily rounds; performs comprehensive history and physical evaluations, behavioral health care, and minor outpatient surgical procedures; applies knowledge of drugs and therapeutics when prescribing medication; coordinates health care needs including referrals; interprets diagnostic and laboratory results; manages Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and Direct Observation Therapy (DOT); takes infection control actions; may serve as medical escort; utilizes interpretation services as needed for LEP detainees; provides patient health education; documents care visits; maintains confidentiality; maintains readiness, CPR/BLS certification, continuing education; completes all required training and maintains flexibility; performs other duties as assigned. Education & Licensure Requirements
Physician Assistant: Requires unrestricted PA state license, national board certification through NCCPA, graduate from an accredited PA program, and DEA prescribing authority. Family Nurse Practitioner: Requires unrestricted FNP state license, national board certification (APRN or ANCC), and DEA prescribing authority; more than six years of full‑time clinical experience; team lead or supervisory experience of >2 years; maintains unrestricted license and DEA authority. Additional preferred qualifications: Experience in IHSC health system, correctional healthcare experience, certification as Correctional Healthcare Professional (CCHP), knowledge of IHSC policies, NCCHC and PBNDS requirements, public health preparedness, infection control, TB management, ACLS, and ATLS certifications. IHSC provides on-site patient care to ICE detainees at 20 detention facilities and manages off‑site medical care for additional facilities. The detention population is approximately 34,000 daily with an average stay of 30 days and over 400,000 annually. The IHSC supports medical needs during ICE enforcement operations.
