Overview
The University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Columbia is seeking tenure-track faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (open rank) in Brain Health. We welcome MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent clinical/scientific candidates whose research focuses on neural mechanisms underlying brain health, disease prevention, and recovery, with high translational or clinical relevance. Active clinician–scientists are especially encouraged to apply, as this position emphasizes direct clinical engagement. Successful candidates will hold privileges within the Prisma Health System, most notably at Prisma Health Richland Hospital (a Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center) which serves as USC’s primary teaching hospital in Columbia. Clinicians will participate in patient care, teaching, and mentoring within the Brain Health Network clinics and in the forthcoming Brain Health Center, integrating research with high-impact clinical practice. The MD/MD–PhD hires will practice within the Prisma Health System via USC faculty appointments, engaging in outpatient and inpatient care, overseeing clinical trials, and forming multidisciplinary teams across sites. USC neurology group regularly conducts stroke and movement-disorder trials, providing a robust platform for NIH-style clinical research and translational impact. This integrated framework—spanning clinical practice, education, and research—ensures clinician candidates contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes, medical education, and brain health science.
