Overview
Computer Science Teacher: Southbridge High School Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students across six schools. The district is pursuing a transformation focused on culture, climate, and instruction, with ongoing improvements in the high school towards stronger student outcomes. This role is part of a team dedicated to providing a safe and positive climate, high expectations for behavior and academics, and equipping students with the skills to succeed. Remain up to date regarding curriculum content. At SHS we use the Project Lead the Way curriculum for Computer Science. Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively. Mentor students to understand the curriculum and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate. Manage the classroom environment effectively. Provide clear learning goals and use appropriate instructional and questioning techniques. Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn. Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement. Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including strategies for students with special needs (e.g., 504 plans) and/or second language learners. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Collaborate with SPED and ELL specialists to meet the needs of particular students. Prepare students for MCAS. Understand High School philosophy and structure of High School teams. Maintain data and documentation as appropriate. Participate in school-wide professional development and seek continual feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher. Ensure equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee. Qualifications - Required
Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution. Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License, preferably in Digital Literacy and Computer Science. Other licensure is acceptable with relevant educational or professional background in computer science. Hold a valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR Grade-level appropriate ESL License. Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified. Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment. Qualifications - Preferred
Experience in urban, high-poverty, and/or turnaround schools. Major/minor in specific teaching content area. Additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL). Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies. Bilingual language proficiency (French/English) strongly preferred.
