University of Colorado Boulder . The University of Colorado Boulder Division of Public Safety's Police Department is accepting applications for Recruit and Lateral Police Officers. Police Officers prevent, solve, and document criminal activity to maintain order. Duties include patrol, arresting violators, filing criminal cases, responding to emergencies, and assisting the public. Police Officers work at special events including athletic events, distinguished speakers, and concerts. They will routinely handle issues requiring heightened decision-making and use analysis and discretion affecting others and the campus community. Police Officer Recruits attend and pass the police academy and the Police Training Officer (PTO) program in their first year. Recruits (POST Academy Graduate) may have completed a POST-approved academy but do not qualify as a lateral officer. After success in the academy, PTO program, and a probationary period, recruits are promoted to Police Officer. Lateral Police Officers have experience at another law enforcement agency of comparable size within the last 12 months and can begin duties after completing DPS training requirements, including on-the-job training. What You Should Know

This department operates 24/7/365. Must be available to work various shifts when needed, including overnights, swing shifts, weekends, holidays, and events. This position operates University vehicles and requires an active Driver’s License. It is subject to a background investigation (criminal, financial, and motor vehicle), job suitability exam, polygraph, Excluded Parties List System check, review of a personal history statement, references and employment checks, and a drug screen. Pre-placement physical and psychological evaluations are also required. This position is designated as Essential Services and a Campus Security Authority. Responsibilities

Police Operations - Patrol: Promote public safety by preventing, detecting, and identifying criminal and suspicious activity; issue summonses; make probable cause arrests and/or incarcerate offenders; complete arrest and search warrants; address traffic offenses. Filing of Cases: Submit criminal cases to prosecuting authorities or university officials; write detailed reports and affidavits; prepare and deliver courtroom testimony. Evidence Recognition, Preservation, and Submission: Photograph, videotape, sketch crime scenes; collect evidence with proper chain of custody. Interviewing and Interrogating: Obtain accurate accounts from victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects; conduct lawful interrogations. Special Event and Contract Assignments: Maintain crowd and traffic control; provide security for events and dignitaries; collaborate with other agencies. Emergency and Citizen Responses: Assist with medical emergencies, fires, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, missing persons, and provide directions and information to the public. Proficiencies and Liability Reductions: Maintain certified peace officer status; stay proficient in laws, reporting, crime scene processing, arrest control, non-lethal weapons, and firearms; participate in regular training. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned; may act independently or represent the Department at campus, city, state boards, or ride-alongs. What You Will Need

Recruit: One year of college coursework or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and/or current Colorado POST certification. Lateral: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; current Colorado POST certification or ability to obtain within 6 months if coming from another state; at least one year of patrol experience; equivalent experience considered case-by-case. General: Ability to manage relationships, deescalate tense situations, adapt to changing priorities, sustain analytical thinking under pressure, evaluate actions, and justify decisions; demonstrate respect for authority, integrity, and ethical behavior; willingness to engage with the community and promote inclusivity. The annual salary range for these positions is $76,197.14 - $105,497. Benefits
