Our client is a privately owned construction company based in Houston, TX, with more than 30 years of success. Located in West Houston, the company specializes in project development across retail, industrial, commercial, and restaurant/hospitality sectors. With an established accounting team in place and the current Controller retiring next year, our client is seeking a new Controller to join the organization and continue its strong tradition of financial excellence. Overview

The Controller will serve as a key financial leader and strategic partner within the organization, overseeing all aspects of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management. This role requires a hands-on professional with strong analytical skills, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, in-person environment. The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining financial discipline, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the company’s long-term growth. Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly financial statements and compliance reporting for internal and external stakeholders. Lead company cash flow planning and projections. Ensure adherence to a strong framework of financial controls, policies, and procedures. Perform and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities. Prepare monthly WIP schedule. Track and manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules. Serve as the primary lead during the annual financial statement audit, including preparation of PBCs and coordination with external auditors. Manage overall budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with department leaders to align results with expectations. Work closely with owners, executives, and operations teams to support financial decision-making. Manage and participate in special projects and other assignments as needed. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required). 5–15+ years of accounting experience; public accounting experience strongly desirable. Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and leadership skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Prior experience in the construction industry, including percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, required.
