Overview
The Adult Education Instructor/Coordinator serves in a dual role that combines teaching and program coordination responsibilities. This position delivers engaging and effective instruction in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), workforce readiness, or vocational skills courses, while also supporting campus-level coordination of instructional activities, faculty support, and student services.
This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.
This is a temporary grant funded position contingent upon grant funding through December 31 year 2025.
What you will be doing
Delivers high-quality, learner-centered instruction in ESOL, workforce skills, or vocational training programs
Creates lesson plans aligned with curriculum objectives, student learning outcomes, and program goals
Uses a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to meet the needs of diverse learners
Assess students’ progress regularly and provide feedback to promote growth and skill development
Maintains accurate attendance records, grade reports, and other documentation required by the program
Serves as the lead instructional point of contact for a specific campus or program component
Supports onboarding, mentoring, and guidance of adjunct instructors
Coordinates class schedules, room assignments, and instructional materials in collaboration with program staff
Assists with faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and curriculum planning
Monitors program performance and supports continuous quality improvement efforts
Collaborates with advisors and support staff to address student needs and ensure retention and success
Participates in campus and community outreach activities related to program recruitment and visibility
Ensures instructional compliance with grant guidelines and institutional policies
Coordinates and manages the scheduling of all post-tests
Conducts monthly faculty meetings with part-time faculty at the assigned center and informs instructors of all policies and procedures
Performs class observations of adjunct instructors
Performs other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed
Bachelor’s degree in ESL or related field from a regionally accredited institution and four (4) years of related experience; or Master’s degree in ESL or related field
Three (3) years of ESL or related area of teaching experience
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Possess a mastery of English and the teaching of English as a Second Language
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Angel management
Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills and model the policies and procedures of Miami Dade College and the program
Possess excellent people skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Ability to demonstrate highly organized and efficient time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to work well under pressure and be a team player
Ability to work independently and take initiative to complete all tasks in a timely manner
Inherent ability to always maintain a professional manner, treat all with respect and use appropriate channels to resolve questionable issues
Ability to work well with students, faculty and staff
Additional Requirements The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
