Part‑time Continuing Education Instructor (Non‑Credit) English as a Second Language (ESL)
Temporary, part‑time position located at North Campus. Focus on enhancing adult learners’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to support personal and professional development. Responsibilities
Provide instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) designed for adult learners seeking to improve communication skills for academic, professional, or personal advancement. Prepare and deliver comprehensive ESL lessons that cater to various proficiency levels. Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate different learning styles. Evaluate student progress through assessments and provide individualized support. Incorporate cultural and real‑life contexts into lessons to enhance learning. Maintain accurate records of attendance and academic performance. Design and deliver ESL instruction to students with varying levels of English proficiency. Prepare lesson plans that incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Utilize culturally relevant teaching strategies and authentic materials. Assess student language progress through formative and summative assessments. Provide individualized support to meet diverse student needs. Incorporate digital tools and multimedia resources into instruction. Develop a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment. Collaborate with program staff on curriculum development and student support. Participate in professional development and language instruction training. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or a related field and at least 2 years of experience teaching ESL to adult learners. Excellent communication and cross‑cultural skills. Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and ESL teaching strategies. Experience with curriculum development and instructional technology. Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and ESL methodologies. Familiarity with ESL curriculum frameworks and adult education standards. Ability to adapt instruction for English learners with diverse cultural backgrounds. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with online learning tools and instructional technology. Skill in designing communicative, student‑centered lessons. Ability to assess English language skills using varied tools. Cultural sensitivity and experience working with multilingual populations. Knowledge of community and workforce English needs. Ability to manage classroom dynamics and foster engagement. Preferences
Master’s degree preferred. TEFL/TESOL certification highly desirable. Candidate must successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
