What we are looking for

We are seeking a highly qualified part-time Residential Counselor for the Serenity House Community Re-integration program. This OASAS-certified program provides a sober living environment for individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. Residential Counselors support each resident’s progress toward individualized service plans and help maintain a safe home environment. Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following: Prioritize best practices in person-centered care concerning each resident’s dignity and goals. Ensure residents are safe and cared for. Provide orderliness, cleanliness, and structure to the program’s day-to-day operations. Develop, foster, and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with residents, their families, and the SJCS team. Physical and environmental conditions The work requires no unusual demand for physical effort but is an active position. Compensation and schedule The hiring range for this position is $20 to $21 per hour and is dependent on experience. We are seeking subs coverage for evening, weekend, and overnight shifts. Required Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent (required). One or more years of relevant experience (required). Excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Associate or bachelor’s degree in human services or related field (desired). CRPA or working toward CRPA certification (desired). CASAC or working toward CASAC certification (desired). Understanding of and ability to provide: Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered support, Mental Health First Aid Ability to gain and demonstrate understanding of SJCS policies and procedures Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with landlords, other agencies, and the public Ability to use sound judgment in decisions Ability to maintain professional and interpersonal boundaries Empathetic, respectful attitude in interactions with residents and staff Commitment to empowering residents to achieve individualized service plan goals Ability to build trust with residents using a person-centered approach while maintaining professional boundaries Proactive and flexible team member, open to clarification, help, and feedback Knowledge of documentation tools and technology Knowledge of substance use treatment and recovery culture Calm, de-escalating demeanor and crisis intervention skills as needed Excellent interpersonal communication, verbal and written All SJCS employees must Obtain a valid health certificate as required by SJCS or funding authority Meet criminal background and record check requirements Physical and environmental conditions The work requires no unusual demand for physical effort but is an active position.
