Sober Living Residential Counselor (SUB) - Ithaca, NY (32894) Practical, part‑time residential counselor needed for the Serenity House Community Re‑integration program. The position covers all shifts—12a‑8a, 8a‑4p, and 4p‑12a—with a preference for evening, weekend, and overnight availability.

St. John’s Community Services (SJCS) is a non‑profit dedicated to supporting people of all abilities. The Serenity House program provides an OASAS‑certified, sober‑living environment for individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. Residential Counselors support each resident’s progress toward their individualized service plans and help maintain a safe environment.

Responsibilities

Prioritize person‑centered best practices that honor each resident’s dignity and goals.

Ensure residents’ safety and well‑being.

Maintain order, cleanliness, and structure in day‑to‑day operations.

Develop, foster, and sustain positive, collaborative relationships with residents, families, and the SJCS team.

Physical & Environmental Conditions

Active position; no unusual physical effort required.

Compensation The hiring range is $20.00‑$21.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least one year of relevant experience.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate or bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.

CRPA or working toward a CRPA certification.

CASAC or working toward CASAC certification.

Motivational Interviewing, person‑centered support, and Mental Health First Aid knowledge.

Knowledge of substance‑use treatment, recovery culture, and crisis intervention.

Strong interpersonal communication skills.
