Job Description
The 3rd Judicial District of the Alaska Court System is looking for an individual who will enjoy assisting court locations as a Traveling Courtroom Judicial Assistant (salary range 12).
What You Will Do
Travel by plane or personal vehicle to provide relief coverage in clerical duties such as in-courting, case processing, jury management, bailiff, customer service, and accounting for local and rural courts.
Prepare courtroom for hearings, post daily court calendar, test microphones and recording equipment, record court proceedings, and prepare accurate summaries of proceedings.
Review case files for prior and pending actions, call roll of prospective jurors and assist in jury selection, mark and maintain exhibits and lists, and collect and properly store exhibits.
Assist with case management and customer service for all case types, including screening incoming mail, researching and resolving special issues related to case filings, answering written inquiries, and preparing and processing filings and orders for signature.
Provide staff training or backup support while staff participate in training sessions; assist Clerk of Court and RCA as needed.
When traveling, submit travel claims to the Area Court Administrator (ACA) for approval and assist with training to the extent that staffing permits. When not traveling, assist local and/or rural courts remotely and support special projects (technology implementation, training, customer service, lead assistance, and sole operational coverage for small courts during vacancies).
The Work Hours Full-time court employees are scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. MAY WORK EXTENDED HOURS WHEN TRAVELING OR ON ASSIGNMENT.

Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
Substitution
Additional office clerical work experience may substitute for the high school diploma or GED on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester hours or 48 quarter hours of coursework may substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course (e.g., legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills) may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis.

Post-secondary transcripts, if using education to meet minimum qualifications.
Keyboarding certification dated within one year showing a speed of at least 40 words per minute (net).

Copies of the two most recent performance evaluations or two letters of recommendation.
A list of three professional references with supervisory authority, including daytime phone numbers and email addresses.
Keyboarding Certification Required Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) showing 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document.
Work history and education information should be accurately completed in the application. Copies of transcripts will be required at time of interview if applicable.
Selection Procedure Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications. If not qualified, a notice will be sent within two weeks after the closing date. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor. Appeals may be filed with the Human Resources Director within five workdays from the date the notice is mailed.
