The Opportunity

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Function as a technical specialist or in a lead substation design role encompassing EHV transmission level voltage class.

Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems.

Provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on substation design projects.

Be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.

Lead other engineers and interface directly with clients.

Be responsible for the overall execution and quality of substation projects as a leader within a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited program.

Minimum of 8 years related work experience.

Pre-employment onboarding requirements may include background checks, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, as applicable by law.

Preferred Qualifications

Power/Power Systems experience preferred

Quality Assurance and Quality Control of EHV substation design projects

EHV Substation design experience (physical & P&C)

Technical experience preferred

Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection

Prepare one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations and protection & control schematics for power substation equipment

Prepare auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations; design wiring diagrams for protective relaying panels

Perform complex engineering calculations/studies related to substation projects

Create RTU control, status and analog point lists, raceway/cable schedules along with maintenance/signage and nameplates

Prepare equipment arrangement, grounding, foundation and conduit plans for high voltage substations

Review shop drawings, vendor quotes and perform bid evaluations

Develop construction release documents

Experience with 500KV - 13.8KV substations and various voltage classes

Experience with open air and/or GIS

Experience with bus configurations

Raceway drawings, grounding drawings, plan and section drawings

Manage budget, schedule, and quality requirements; delegate and supervise the work of younger engineers; communicate status updates

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards:

Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projects

Perform EHV substation design, including physical design and protective relaying/control

Develop scoping documents for EHV substation projects

Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, codes, and BV policies

Assist in developing and updating engineering standards

Provide technical guidance to others on projects and disciplines

Quality/Continuous Improvement:

Apply knowledge and comply with BV quality program

Conduct internal Quality Assurance technical reviews

Support continuous improvement and change management efforts

Engineering Production:

Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects

Oversee data collection and management for engineering work

Prepare complex engineering calculations

Manage budgets, schedules, and quality requirements

Review lower level engineering work and supervise teams

Project Coordination:

Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects

Manage work assignments and ensure quality from direct reports

Participate in management, project scheduling, and resource planning meetings

Client Focus:

Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors

Communicate client interests to project teams and adapt performance accordingly

Support business development or pursuit activities

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:

Serve as a technical specialist and provide guidance to project teams

Support multiple projects on complex technical challenges

People Management:

Assist with performance management, mentoring, and development

May supervise other engineers and technicians

Resource Management:

Implement resource management strategy

Manage engineering resources for small groups

Work Environment/Physical Needs

Certifications

Most positions require professional registration or licensure in the designated country, or active pursuit of such registration.
