Process Automation Engineer
to join a thriving team in Houston, Texas. This role combines
process engineering expertise
with
automation and control systems experience , including DCS, PLC, and SCADA. The position involves both
office-based engineering work and hands-on field support
at plant sites. Job Type: Direct Hire Pay Rate: $150,000 - $160,000/year. Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO, and more. Process Automation Engineer Responsibilities: Design, evaluate, and optimize industrial processes with a focus on automation and control systems. Troubleshoot process and automation issues, leading root cause analysis with cross-functional teams. Oversee or support DCS, PLC, and SCADA programming, integration, and optimization. Conduct or support
process hazard analysis (PHA), HAZOP studies, and risk assessments . Collaborate with operations, maintenance, electrical, safety, and environmental teams to ensure process integrity and regulatory compliance. Develop and update
process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) . Provide technical support during plant
startups, shutdowns, turnarounds, and field commissioning . Recommend and implement automation and process technology upgrades. Perform process simulation using tools such as Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations. Process Automation Engineer Skills and Abilities : Strong experience with
DCS, PLC, SCADA systems, and HMI programming . Familiarity with
field instrumentation and industrial automation devices . Knowledge of
industry codes and standards
(API, ASME, NFPA). Experience with
Process Safety Management (PSM)
programs. Proficiency with
process simulation software
(Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD, PRO/II). Strong
problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills . Ability to work in
field environments , including plant operations, startups, and maintenance support. Experience with
advanced process control (APC)
or
digital process monitoring
is a plus. Ability to
lead cross-functional teams
and coordinate technical efforts. Process Automation Engineer Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in
Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering , or a related discipline. 5+ years of experience
in process engineering with
automation/control systems exposure . Prior experience as a
Process Automation or Process Control Engineer
