Position overview: The Campus Dean/Director of Nursing directs academic operations of the nursing programs on campus to ensure students receive a quality education in a friendly environment. This role evaluates program quality and maintains accreditation standards. It manages faculty including hiring/selection, orientation, development, supervision, evaluation, and discipline; and works to acquire and maintain clinical sites to meet course and student demands. It provides critical communication to facilitate role performance and program functioning and participates in planning measures to achieve academic success for students.
Responsibilities
Directs academic operations of nursing programs on a single campus
Provides academic advising and support to all students in lecture, lab, clinical, and distance education courses
Collaborates with central support services to ensure high-quality delivery of content via the College’s learning management system
Provides technical support to students in accessing electronic educational products
Supervises student registration in collaboration with Campus Executive Director
Follows governance reporting structures and written policies and procedures
Serves in a faculty role as needed in emergent situations
Develops quarterly staffing plan and faculty teaching schedule based on workload
Contributes to campus budget needs including supervision of lab budget
Addresses classroom, lab, and clinical issues and concerns
Supervises nursing lab budgetary purchases and needs for campus
Ensures qualified, competent faculty are hired and placed in accordance with numbers and budget
Manages all faculty and ADON including headcount planning, interviewing, hiring, orientation, mentoring/coaching, and disciplining; documents interactions as indicated
Provides orientation to all faculty and conducts performance evaluations for direct reports
Maintains faculty quality and retention through mentoring, supervision, and evaluation
Supervises faculty file records in collaboration with HR
Secures clinical sites of quality and quantity to meet educational and enrollment needs; maintains site records
Communicates with the site to facilitate process improvements by leading Faculty Organization Meetings
Arranges and conducts Community Advisory meetings annually
Participates in accreditation visits
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Completion of an approved professional nursing program. A minimum of a Master’s Degree with a major in nursing
At least five years of nursing practice experience as a registered nurse
Prior leadership/managerial experience
Minimum of two years teaching experience in a professional registered nursing program as a faculty member
Ability to identify and resolve complex issues
Ability to set priorities and organize tasks
Excellent verbal and written communication
Thorough knowledge of role differentiation of LPN vs RN
General Credentialing Requirements Applicants selected and receiving an offer of employment will complete key credentialing requirements for clinical placements prior to clearance. A summary of requirements includes:
Providing copies of official transcripts for all degrees earned
Providing a copy of current American Heart Association BLS or ACLS CPR card
Completion of a physical form (within the last 12 months)
Immunization documentation for Hepatitis B, MMR, TDAP/Tetanus, Varicella, TB, and Flu (October 1 – April 1 hires)
