Black & Veatch is seeking a Power System Protection Engineer with 2 years of experience to join our Protective Relay Settings team. The ideal candidate has an understanding of Protection & Control (P&C) design concepts, familiarity with relay manufacturer software platforms, and familiarity with system modeling software. Qualifications and experience from candidates located near Black & Veatch Regional Offices will be considered. Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards: Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures. Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate. Quality/Continuous Improvement: Develops knowledge and complies with Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks; supports continuous improvement and change management efforts. Engineering Production: Prepares and verifies less complex engineering deliverables; performs research and develops equipment/material recommendations; collects, assimilates, and manages data; prepares engineering calculations; adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Project Coordination: Seeks guidance from supervisor or project leadership and coordinates with others as assigned. Client Focus: Focuses on internal client needs while understanding external client drivers; may support business development or pursuit activities. Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program; minimum 1 year related work experience; ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search). Preferred Qualifications : 2 years of experience in Transmission, Distribution, or Power Generation; understanding of basic Protection & Control concepts (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring); 2 years of experience in development of protective relay settings; familiarity with system modeling software (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM, etc.); knowledge of protection schemes in Transmission, Distribution and Renewable Substations; familiarity with Mathcad and Excel for protective settings; familiarity with DNP, SEL, MMS, Modbus; knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV); familiarity with protective relays in substation environments; ability to develop protective setpoints per standards and client requirements; ability to develop downloadable setpoint files on SEL AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, etc.; ability to develop and manipulate protection logic.
