Senior Project Engineer – Battery Energy Storage

My client, a market leader in renewable energy EPC and operations, is seeking a
Senior Project Engineer
to deliver large-scale BESS projects across New York. This role demands technical expertise, leadership ability, and in-depth knowledge of
NYISO interconnection and New York State regulatory frameworks .
Responsibilities
Lead BESS design development from feasibility through commissioning, ensuring designs meet NYISO and NYSERDA requirements.
Act as primary technical liaison with utilities, regulators, and stakeholders.
Direct and mentor engineering teams, ensuring technical rigor and consistency.
Oversee review and approval of electrical engineering packages, schematics, and studies.
Support procurement with vendor selection and technical evaluations.
Coordinate site visits, constructability reviews, and field QA/QC processes.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
7+
years engineering experience, with
5+
years in energy storage, renewable generation, or transmission.
Expertise in inverter-based resources, BMS, and interconnection studies.
NY Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
Willingness to travel across New York and the Northeast region.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with NYISO interconnection and NYSERDA compliance.
Previous delivery of multi-hundred MWh BESS projects.
Familiarity with urban permitting processes for dense metropolitan areas.
