Hardware Design Engineer, HVAC and Thermal
Lucid Motors, Newark, California, United States, 94560
Overview
Hardware Design Engineer, HVAC and Thermal – Newark, CA Lucid Motors is building luxury electric vehicles with a focus on sustainability and advanced design. We are seeking an automotive Hardware Design Engineer – Thermal Systems who can identify problems, engineer solutions, and drive improvements in thermal system design. This role is for hardware design engineering with CAD-based development experience; it is not a simulation analyst or a thermal analyst position. Note: Candidates without prior mechanical design experience employing CAD will not be considered for this role. Responsibilities
Use engineering principles to design parts, assemblies, and subsystems for automotive thermal systems. Develop conceptual packaging models for thermal components including heat exchangers, fans and blowers, fluid transfer lines, airflow channels, and support brackets. Integrate components into larger mechanical subsystems to reduce vehicle assembly part count and assembly time. Collaborate with other engineering teams and suppliers to review design solutions, guide design changes, ensure packaging compliance (vehicle clearances), and meet performance attributes (thermal, software compliance, NVH, mass). Own and drive design improvements with support from Programs, Manufacturing, and Suppliers. Qualifications
Proven experience creating complex CAD models (CATIA V6 preferred) quickly and efficiently. Experience generating 2D drawings fully defining engineering requirements. Knowledge of GD&T and its application to parts, assemblies, and customer requirements. Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals in fluid flow, thermal analysis, and material strength/stiffness. 1–3 years of relevant design/engineering experience (new grads with Formula SAE or similar experience will be considered). Excellent work ethic with well-developed teamwork and interpersonal skills; capable of working in a cross-functional team. Preferred
Experience taking initiative and owning large-scope projects. Knowledge of pump, fan, and heat exchanger performance characteristics. Experience using commercial CAE software (CFD and/or structural). Proficiency in creating complex parts/assemblies including plastic or cast parts. Hands-on experience repairing or maintaining vehicles. Education
BS in ME or EE Compensation and Benefits
Salary range is location-dependent. Lucid offers competitive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, vacation, and 401(k). Eligible candidates may participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to program rules. Equal Opportunity and Recruitment Notice
