Overview

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products, and supports sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. You will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems as part of a fast-paced team of engineers, working with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System program. You will be responsible for thermal components from conception through internal or external development, testing, and integration with the vehicle. You will be part of the Thermal Hardware group for multiple generations of landers, collaborating with the Thermal Analysis group within the Lunar Thermal integrated product team. Inputs include subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards. Outputs include component specifications, test plans and reports, occasional thermal analyses, development plans, and make/buy decisions. Contribute to a team of Thermal Engineers and Analysts developing lunar landers, applying technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to quality to advance safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities
Contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems for lunar landers. Work from concept through development, testing, and integration with the vehicle. Collaborate with the Thermal Hardware group and the Thermal Analysis group within the Lunar Thermal IPT. Develop subsystem specifications, mission-environment inputs, and design/construct standards; generate test plans, execution reports, and, when needed, analyses and development plans. Participate in make/buy decisions and collaboration with NASA and National Team Partners. Demonstrate personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications
Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent on-the-job experience in the spacecraft design industry. 5 years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience. Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals. Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware. Demonstrated experience building and testing hardware. Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes. Ability to earn trust and maintain positive, professional relationships. Desired Qualifications
M.S. or PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering. 8 years of relevant aerospace experience. Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware (pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers). Solid understanding of passive thermal control hardware (conventional and cryogenic multilayer insulation, temperature sensors, patch heaters). Experience solving a variety of thermal problems across broad applications. Vendor technical management experience. Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation. Compensation and Benefits
Compensation ranges vary by site: CA applicants $117,498.00-$164,497.20; CO applicants $107,707.00-$150,789.45; WA applicants $117,498.00-$164,497.20. Other site ranges may differ. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, short- and long-term disability, 401(k) with company match up to 5%, and an Education Support Program. Paid Time Off: Up to four weeks per year plus up to 14 company holidays. Discretionary bonus based on individual contributions and company results.
