Schneider Electric
Schneider Electric's rapidly expanding modular data center line of business is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our engineering team. The Structural Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Technical Leaders, Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and other Subject Matter Experts. This position is responsible for ensuring structural integrity, compliance, and constructability of modular components including enclosures, skids, pods, platforms, racks, and integrated systems. This includes developing structural designs and conducting analyses for internal projects, as well as reviewing and validating designs provided by external consultants and vendors to ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and integration constraints.
Responsibilities
Perform static and dynamic structural simulations using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate stress, deformation, vibration, and stability of mechanical and structural components.
Perform structural design and analysis including load calculations, stress evaluation, deflection checks, buckling and connection design.
Establish structural deformation criteria based on building classification and assess the impact of integration, transportation, and operational conditions.
Define and evaluate the weather resistance rating of enclosure designs, including penetrations such as doorways, cable glands, and HVAC ducts, to ensure compliance with environmental protection standards.
Ensure structural design compliance with seismic rating requirements and validate system anchoring methods for stability under applicable seismic conditions.
Support manufacturing and assembly of prefabricated modules by defining structural loading conditions and recommending lifting, transport, securing, and anchoring methods during integration, transportation, and installation at customer site.
Create drawings and documentation to support design and integration teams.
Ensure compliance with International Building Code (IBC) and Schneider Electric’s internal design standards.
Collaborate with Tendering and Operations teams to identify cost savings and manufacturing efficiency gains as it pertains to various design architectures.
Coordinate with other discipline engineers to ensure proper installation and compliance via internal processes and design reviews.
Participate in customer meetings to discuss design requirements and constraints.
Provide support in developing Bill of Materials.
Provide support to factory production personnel and site integration teams by answering Requests for Information and providing onsite support as needed.
Occasional travel, up to 15%.
Participate in lessons learned activities and drive continuous improvement efforts within the team.
Reporting You will report to the Customer Projects & Services Engineering Manager. This role is a hybrid position. You are required to report to either the West Chester, OH, Red Oak, TX or Phoenix, AZ office at least 2 days a week and up to 25% travel a year.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis (ABET-accredited)
5+ years of experience in structural design, modular construction, industrial buildings, or data center infrastructure.
Ability to leverage technical knowledge to influence and drive solution design.
Familiarity with BIM and modeling tools such as Revit, Creo, and Tekla Structures.
Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Robot Structural Analysis or IDEA StatiCa.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with creating new data center architectures and researching new innovative technologies.
Familiarity with traditional and emerging data center technologies.
Innovative mindset looking to increase engineering efficiency and sustainability.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
